How driving around Bournemouth has changed during lockdown!
It’s been such a strange period of time for all of us for so many reasons. I noticed at the start of lockdown, that the roads of Bournemouth were so quiet. I didn’t even drive my car for the first few weeks. I went out on my bike for my daily exercise and hardly a car passed me by. Then, I had to make some trips to the supermarket in the car and I noticed how it was a bit like a ghost town driving past the usually busy shops.
It was eerie being so quiet with so little traffic noise, but I also noticed that there was less pollution in the air and the smell of spring was a lot more noticeable.
As the weeks went on, I noticed something else about the traffic. There was a lot more reckless driving going on. A lot of people were taking advantage of the empty roads and driving dangerously and speeding.
During the last week or so, the traffic has slowly built up again and it is getting a lot busier as people are starting to venture out.
What a strange old time it has been!
We are hoping that we can begin to teach driving lessons in Bournemouth again soon, with cautionary measures and the use of PPE. As soon as we get the go-ahead from the government, we can start to plan this and put measures in place to begin teaching.
You can contact us if you’d like to go on our waiting list, until then, stay safe!
Here’s a photo I took of an empty Fairmile Road in Christchurch during the first few weeks – a rare sight!
